The Perfect Whiskey Sour

Equal parts tart and smooth, the Whiskey Sour is the gateway cocktail that wins people over. Fresh lemon is non-negotiable here.
Ingredients
- 2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 1/2 oz egg white (optional, for a silky foam)
- Cherry and lemon, to garnish
Method
Add all ingredients to a shaker without ice and shake hard for about 10 seconds (this is the "dry shake" that builds the foam). Add ice and shake again until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a cherry and a lemon slice.
Tips
Skip the egg white if you prefer — it still tastes great, just without the cloud-like top. Adjust the syrup up or down depending on how tart your lemons are.
